The Pakistan Narcotics Control Board (PNCB) supplanted the Pakistan Narcotics Board (PNB), established in 1957 under the jurisdiction of the Revenue Division, in 1973. Established in 1991, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) joined the PNCB in 1995 to become the principal agency for drug control. With 1,500 employees, the ANF collaborates with organizations including the Pakistan Coast Guards, Customs, Airport Security Force, and Provincial Police to promote a drug-free society. In 1989, the Ministry of Interior created the Narcotics Control Division to deal with drug-related issues.
